Qua'A'Vi Mercenaries - 800 Calvary Archers

Battle:

In 2237 the Northern Iga'Vi Army of 10,000 Xen'Vi led by general Zaqua'Ji
massed upon the Valiero'Vi borderlands in response to the trade embargo
on Iga'vi goods by the Valiero'Vi trading companies. Collecting 1800
Aari'Vi mercenaries the army moved within 15 kilometers of the border.
Raids across the borders by local garrisons was quickly encouraged by
both sides and many of the local farms and villages were razed. The
Imperial Valiero'Vi Army was meanwhile called from the Qua'A'Vi frontier
regions in response to the military build up. Moving through the
southern half of the Valiero'Vi it collected 2500 Militiamen and 800
Qua'A'Vi mercenaries to a total of 13,000 Xen'Vi. Savloiu was placed in
command of the massive force. After 13 days of maneuvering and attempted
flankings of each other the Iga'Vi forces positioned themselves a top a
low ridge with a wide depression split by a shallow creek between them
and the Valiero'Vi.

After waiting for two days 300 Iga'Vi
skirmishers moved down the ridge and began attacking the outskirts of
the Valiero'Vi camp in the early dawn. Immediately all 600 Valiero'Vi
skirmishers began to repel the retreating enemy causing light
causalities. The Iga'Vi were followed by the Valiero'Vi skirmishers
into the brush surrounding the creek were another 400 Iga'Vi skirmishers
were waiting. In 30 minutes of bloody combat 370 Valiero'Vi were
killed, wounded or taken. 210 Iga'Vi skirmishers were lost. The
disseminated Valiero'Vi forces routed behind the main Valiero'Vi lines
which had formed up mean while.

Meanwhile the Iga'Vi army had
formed a top the ridge into a battle line. As soon as the skirmish
battle was lost all 600 mounted lancers under the Iga'Vi charged down
the hill after the fleeing Valiero'Vi. As they passed through the creek
the Iga'Vi lancers were charged by the main Valiero'Vi forces. As they
attempted to pull out they lost some 80 Xen'Vi. Quickly the majority of
the Valiero'Vi forces charged after them and up the hill. While the
majority went strait out for the main Iga'Vi battle line a detachment of
900 Qua'A'Vi Calvary Archers and Lancers chased directly after the
Iga'Vi lancers which moved to the Iga'Vi left. Un-noticed by the
Qua'A'Vi 200 Arquebus had been moved to the Iga'Vi left and lied in wait
amidst a grove of shrubbery. As the Qua'A'Vi followed after the lancers
they were scattered by several volleys of fire. They were then pounced
upon by the then regrouped lancers.

Meanwhile the Arquebus and
archers had scattered multiple charges but both the Valiero'Vi Calvary
and infantry. Slowly the Valiero'Vi mounted archers took their toll and
the Iga'Vi firing slowed as troops sheltered behind pavises. The Iga'Vi
artillery had been at that point firing at the Valiero'Vi though with
limited success due to their crews relative inexperience. (The cannons
being recently introduced to the Northern Army.) Similarly the
Valiero'Vi cannon crews were even less trained and the cannons
themselves were already outdated by the Iga'Vi forged weapons. The time
it took for the Valiero'Vi cannons to be wheeled into position also gave
time for the Iga'Vi to score several strikes upon the baggage trains
for the Valiero'Vi. These hits mostly forced the Valiero'Vi artillery to
only take a minor part of the battle.

The assaulting Valiero'Vi
calvary had by mid-morning pushed through the levies and pikemen of the
Iga'Vi and began to mill about the center of the army causing havoc.
Quickly a troop of Iga'Vi archers began to spray arrows into the calvary
causing minor casualties to their own forces but forcing back the
Valiero'Vi as reserves closed in. The flanks of the Valiero'Vi forces
were mostly formed of their levies due to the unordered nature of the
charge. Even though at first after they pushed against the Iga'Vi forces
they seceded in causing casualties they were slowly shoved back by fire
from flanking Arquebus fire.

As the Valiero'Vi casualties
mounted on the flanks the last of the Valiero'Vi reserves were ordered
into the fray including the Arquebus and pikemen. The tiny force of
soldiers were recently recruited into the Valiero'Vi forces and
completely untested in battle. They sustained three volleys from Iga'Vi
Arquebus after letting off one before routing from the field. 300 Iga'Vi
lancers pursued them and cut many of them down. These calvary then
caused havoc behind the Valiero'Vi forces, though they where whittled
down quickly by the enemy calvary to only a handful of Xen'Vi.

At
this point most of the Valiero'Vi lines had disintegrated and were
being thrown into rout. The Valiero'Vi infantry made a stand amidst the
creek but were broken by cannon fire. Similarly many Valiero'Vi calvary
regrouped at their camp but were then ambushed by the Aari'Vi Corsairs
and Marines which had previously been besieging a Valiero'Vi fort 13
Kilometers away, which had surrendered after a short skirmish.

As
the retreat became a complete rout the Valiero'Vi fled towards the
mountains where many would remain scattered for several days. What was
left of the reserves were salvaged by the Valiero'Vi commander and
pulled back towards the Valiero'Vi interior. The militias mostly fled
back to their homes.

The Iga'Vi forces then marched steadily
towards the Valiero'Vi capital sacking key cities at every opportunity
and sending out bands to pick off the remaining Valiero'Vi forces.
Taking 2000 casualties to the Valiero'Vi 6000 the Iga'Vi forces were
mostly intact but with heavy losses to their levies and calvary. While
the levies were little concern the loss of over half the calvary left
the Iga'Vi vulnerable to hit and runs. They also had to deal with 4500
prisoners which would plague them the entire campaign. At a port city of
Davadia they would execute 2000 to cut the strain on their baggage
trains.

The results of the battle was the complete loss of an
organized Valiero'Vi military and the onset of the loss of much of their
western territory for much of the war. With the lack of a military to
defend the north and east they lost great tracks of territories and
settlers to tribal incursions.

Battle:

In 2230 the Northern Iga'Vi Army of 10,000 Xen'Vi led by general Zaqua'Ji massed upon the Valiero'Vi borderlands and was met by the Valiero'Vi Imperial Army. The battle resulted in mass casualties for the Valiero'Vi. The Iga'Vi then moved into the Valiero'Vi interior where they sacked numerous cities until reaching the Valiero'Vi capital of _______. The army also bolstered their depleted calvary force by hiring in captured Valiero'Vi. It would prove to be a mistake.

As the army marched within the final
distance local militias and
regrouped Valiero'Vi troops began to
launch raids on the marching
columns. In response to the attacks
constant raiding parties moved
out and began to assault the local
villages which succeeded in
drawing away the harassers. Around 50
of the Valiero'Vi mercenaries
deserted during the raids. They
brought detailing information on the
state of the Iga'Vi army to
the city. The skirmishes would continue
for days as the Iga'Vi
formed their bulwarks for the siege.

The Valiero'Vi forces
similarly were
preparing the cities' walls for the assault and
closed off all
civilian travel through the gates. What Xen'Vi they
could they
drafted for the militias and equipped. The river
traffic was halted
for fear of infiltrators and troops were kept
on the walls at all
times. What ships were in the cities' ports
were stripped of their
crews and soldiers. As the Iga'vi began
their bombardment the
Valiero'Vi did their best (if in vain)
attempt to subdue the
relentless fire with ballista shot.

The
Iga'Vi artillery concentrated on the gates and walls, knocking out
most battlements and bastions. They then struck the walls where they
afforded the least resistance to the shelling. After 23 days the
walls were crumbled at several points and constant firing would not
afford the Valiero'Vi a chance to make repairs. Not at the least that
the walls were partially cleared of defenders, for even threats did
not send the militias to the murderous pounding. Unfortunately for
the Iga'Vi their recruits of Valiero'Vi soldiers were down to 250
from the original 500, mostly lost to desertions, many of which
brought detailed accounts of the Iga'Vi forces and movements. This
included the date of the initial assault.

On that day the Iga'Vi forces gathered
their crack troops and readied themselves in the dawn. At the same
time
400 Valiero'Vi calvary gathered behind a sally port in the walls. The
gate was hidden behind a thin brick sheet and so far was unknown to the
Iga'Vi. At the moment the rays of light streaked over the Valiero'Vi
walls 3000 Iga'Vi stormed forward wielding Iron Cats, grenades,
flamethrowers and ladders. Taking only sporadic fire from the pinned
down Valiero'Vi defenders they overran the militias defending the caved
in walls only to find lines of soldiers blocking their rout into the
city. Bottlenecked and taking heavy fire the Iga'Vi advance ground to a
halt as soon as they entered the city. One levied Valiero'Vi merchant
stated,

The roars of the Blayards (Degenerative term for
Iga'Vi nationalites) rose greatly as they rushed over the bastions and
slew the poor Xen'Vi upon the walls. The wails alerted us and so we
brought our spears and pavises level and the clash of the impact of our
titans and theirs rang out with such force that a great cry echoed from
the city. The murderous thunder of the heathen's guns struck down many
of us with no regard but soon with the spirits with us we shoved the
Blayards backwards against the walls where we slew a great many of them
to their horror yet to our triumphant.

At this point the
Valiero'Vi calvary burst through the sally port and charged in a stream
towards the Iga'Vi archers which had otherwise caused much injury to the
poorly armored Valiero'Vi. Before they pushed through and broke from
the Iga'Vi they were swarmed by a division of elite Svia'Vi border
archers who held the calvary in place till the levies came up and forced
the calvary to surrender. Unfortunately the rest of the battle quickly
turned against the Iga'Vi and by the end of the day 2000-2750 Xen'Vi
were killed many being elite Iga'Vi soldiers. Of the Valiero'Vi their
main infantry forces were decimated though with renewed vigor from the
victory. Of the three main breaches of the walls only one was still held
by the Iga'Vi still at nightfall. Under steady forays by Valiero'Vi the
Iga'Vi pulled out during the night. The first assault had been a
disaster due to the leaked information by escaping Valiero'Vi. Upon this
realization all remaining Valiero'Vi fighting for the Iga'Vi were
immediately executed.

With over 2000 casualties and little to
show for it the ga'Vi were put on hold while they regrouped. The
Valiero'Vi took 2500 casualties and were met with the problem of
defending the entire city which would stretch their forces so thin that
defense would be near impracticable.

It would not be for over two weeks before a new attack would begin.

Jay'Vi Eastern Militia - 2000 Militia, 1000 Militia Calvary

Jay'Vi Nomad Mercenaries - 800 Mounted Nomads, 300 Dismounted Nomads,

11450

Battle:

On
a foggy desert morning 6 kilometers from the Jay'Vi town of Ylalam the
Iga'Vi Imperial Southern Army marched towards Tah'Hil canyon where they
believed a Jay'Vi force of 11000 Xen'Vi was holed up. During the early
morning march through the fog the Right Division of the army was
separated in the fog from the main army. It numbered 5000 Xen'Vi, mostly
militia assigned to protect the flank. Their new and incompetent
commander instead accidently lead them off course onto the road to
Ylalam.

Unknown to any of the Iga'Vi the Jay'Vi forces had in
fact hosted in Ylalam itself and was preparing to launch a minor attack
to lead the Iga'Vi off the moors and into the desert. But when presented
the prospect of a easy kill of 5000 Iga'Vi, a large hunk of the Iga'Vi
forces, they quickly left the town and road down through the fog to the
right of the Right Division. Suddenly as the sun rose and melted the
mist the Right Division found itself completely surrounded and separated
from the main force. The commander simply knew nothing to do.

But
instead of surrendering or being massacred on the spot the Iga'Vi
southern militias, mostly of whom were infact better trained and
seasoned then the Pikemen Elites instead began to skirmish with the
advancing Jay'Vi infantry. Moving forward slowly towards Ylalam the
skirmish grew larger by the second. Aruqbusiers, archers and infantry
dodged, ducked and aimed in a sharp shooter battle. Pushing up the road
the Iga'Vi found a ridge to their right lined with artillery backed by
an oasis filled with the main Jay'Vi force. The Imperial Iga'Vi troops
leading the front were scattered by the cannons as their stone balls
cleaved and bashed Xen'Vi into bloody pulps.

Instead of stopping
the Iga'Vi the firing instigated a charge by the main Iga'Vi militia
force. The missile units followed behind them and engaged the Jay'Vi
skirmishers. The Jay'Vi calvary counter charged around the Iga'Vi flanks
but were hit by the Iga'Vi calvary before hitting the flanks. The
Jay'Vi Nomads then charged the rear and ransacked the artillery along
with knocking out the war vehicles. Then the Jay'Vi main infantry force
charged the Iga'Vi infantry who had been left stranded on the ridge
after forcing the Jay'Vi artillery to withdraw. The Iga'Vi soon found
themselves in threat of complete and utter annihilation by the much
greater Jay'Vi force.

Then the Iga'Vi missile infantry began to
shove the Jay'Vi infantry back through the Oasis under intense bursts of
Arquebusier fire. Rapidly the deadly but exposed line was cut up by
sharpshooting Jay'Vi but each Xen'Vi cut down was ignored as volley
after volley blasted the Jay'Vi infantry flanks forcing them to with
draw from the Iga'Vi infantry. The infantry then swept through the
scattered trees and brush of the Oasis hacking down the Jay'Vi
skirmishers who had not fled before the Iga'Vi Arqubuesiers fired upon
the Jay'Vi calvary. At this point out of 400 arqubusiers only 130 were
still fighting.

The Jay'Vi tried multiple counter attacks after
the Iga'Vi infantry routed the remaining Jay'Vi calvary but the Iga'Vi
made it to Ylalam and safety as the town was stripped of its militia by
the Jay'Vi army previously. The Iga'Vi commander was killed along with
over half of the army lost as dead, wounded and missing. But the battle
proved that the southern militias of the Iga'Vi empire were able to
fight and win where Imperial troopers were massacred. As is the nature
of people who spend their lives fighting.

Your sentence was written as a statement yet is marked by the symbol for questioning. Reasoning is useless. Self destructing in T - 7 seconds....

But in theory we should be able to.

What about the Battle of Red Mountain, TV?

I think it would also be quite good if Iga invades Akavir, location of the Sacred Grove.

Maybe. I'll type up any battles Temporal sends me. (Unless I'm not suppose to.) And for the record these aren't very epic in description. The actual descriptitons for book purposes will be much more awesoem.

Iga vs. Aari at sea --> Aari wins (Epic)

Battle of Nalim

Belligerents:

-------------------

Aari'Vi Military Navy

Mercenary Corsairs

Aari'Vi Castle and Port Garrison/Militia

-------------------------------------

Iga'Vi Imperial Northern Navy

Iga'Vi Imperial Northern Army

-----------------------------------------

Location:

Nalim Bay, Akavir Sea

Forces:

Aari'Vi Military Navy - 230 Galleys, 45 Gallaeases, 60 Fireships, 7500 Marines

Corsair Mercenaries - 40 Galleys, 500 Corsairs

Aari'Vi Colony Militias - 4000 Militia Infantry
(Most on ships)

Iga'Vi Imperial Northern Navy - 330 Galleys, 3 Gallaeases, 30 Various Drafted Ships/Boats, 9000 Marines

Iga'Vi Imperial Northern Army - 700 Crack Shock Troops (Arquebusiers/Infantry)
-

Battle:

In the lately contested waters of the Akavir sea the Iga'Vi Imperial Northern Navy entered Nalim bay with the intent of engaging and destroying the Aari'Vi navy in the early morning. It went against every rule of sea warfare but so far was working. Having avoided attention 50 Galleys were already getting into positions in the middle of the bay till a soldier accidentally fired his musket. In moments alarms were ringing and Aari'Vi marines were storming onto decks to the sound of galley drums sounding the row beat. The Disorganized Aari'Vi force was met with a prepared, if equally disorganized, Iga'Vi navy of a much larger size. The frontal cannons upon their bow castles fired again and again as neither side wanted to initiate close combat. Suddenly the corsair light galleys slipped down the center of the Iga'Vi force and began to blast the Iga'Vi galleys with swivel guns. They then moved outside of the bay where they attacked the cargo barges.

Meanwhile the Iga'Vi galleys, unwilling to divert themselves from the battle plan ignored them. The Aari'Vi then pushed forward and engaged the Iga'Vi ships. While seemingly foolish the Aari'Vi had plans to beat their much larger foe. First their Gallaeases ripped through the bogged down Iga'Vi. Then the Aari'Vi fire ships crawled along the outskirts of the stalled Iga'Vi ship column. At the funnel neck of the bay opening the marines broke the jars holding the powders that would cause massive combustion within the explosive filled hulls. Then they lowered the side boats and rowed for their lives. With in a minute the fire explosions flew shattered fishingboats everywhere spreading a glaring blue fire onto the Iga'Vi ships. These ships quickly dissolved into panic as flames engulfed the dry ships. Chained rowers had little chances. With half the Iga'Vi ships cut off inside the bay by a plug of burning ships the remaining fireships turned towards the beleaguered Iga'Vi galleys. They exploded their cargoes again and again spraying blue fire over the Iga'Vi ships as the now greatly outnumbered Iga'Vi were completely surrounded by Aari'Vi mariens and cut down often to the last Xen'Vi. What remained were taken as galley slaves.

But all the while 700 Iga'Vi crack troops were moving down the beaches towards the Aari'Vi castle Nairhab which was defended only by 200 Militia and staff. Climbing the cliff overlooking the bay they managed to approach unseen till the final rush for the gates, which they found bolted. Bringing up several ladders they began to scale the walls as the few defenders panicked. Then fate cursed them, for 40 Iga'Vi marines were fleeing their sinking ships and moving towards the hills. Not aware of the situation they believed the castle lights to be just a small village. Expecting a grab and dash raid they instead found a castle under siege. Their captain, having survived the sinking, realized the situation and decided he'd earn glory by sending his marines to help out the attack, assuming correctly that the attackers were Iga'Vi fighting Aari'Vi.

While seemingly smart, if selfish, move the charging Marines were mistaken as a larger force of Aari'Vi reinforcements by the Iga'Vi troops. Even for crack troops the thought of getting hit in the rear, trapped against a wall, was too much and most of the Iga'Vi fled. Confused, the marines also fled. The Aari'Vi defenders were left to ponder the sudden rout.

The remaining Iga'Vi fleet fled the bay with half their numbers and the loss of their crack soldiers. The Aari'Vi lost few ships and men in comparison and were successful in keeping control of the surrounding waters. Unfortunately for them they would in fact lose nearly 80 ships when they were caught in a great storm in pursuit of the Iga'Vi fleet.

What about the Battle of Red Mountain, TV?

I think it would also be quite good if Iga invades Akavir, location of the Sacred Grove.
Maybe. Considering Iga knows of the prophecy through the emporer.

But we should leave it for now, 'cause those are also ones whose descriptions could easily cause the story to be spoiled.

Then again, maybe an Iga invasion of Akavir should rather not happen, because it kinda on the other side of the world from Iga. A Battle of Red Mountain is much more plausible and should probably happen for storyline perpouses.

Look at 1:10 - 3:20

I think that that might be a bit similar to how I foresee the Iga'Vi fighting. Pikemen and Arquebus fighting out the main battle with clavary skirmishing each other. Not including all the other weapons and things that the Iga'Vi use.

Fairly kinda so, but with a bit more Mordor and Fire Nation (reference to the Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon series thing) thrown in there.

That's what I thought. Now how well governed are the border regions? I get the impression Jay'Vi and Iga'Vi aren't very friendly, at least locally on their border. And what on the Svia'Vi borders? Or Aari'Vi?

Valiero and Svia are fairly friendly on their borders. Aari basically live where they can, and so have very loosely defined borders, if any at all. The other clans, save for Iga and Jay, are where they are - they don't really define national borders in their society.

Hmm, I definitely see the Aari'Vi as a colonizing sea power with castles, forts, towns and ports scattered along the coasts where ever they can.

Yeah, some settlements along the coast with their own militias. Sound reasonable

True, but they don't really consider any of their territory theirs if there are other nations neerby or even in that territory.

Perhaps I should clarify that the new clan map isn't really a territory map, but rather a poppulation map showing the locations and desities of the citizens/members/people-under-the-authority of the clans.

Er, could we have a territorial map? And when you talk about the Aari'Vi, wouldn't they have a number of ports, castles, etc. directly under their control to supply their navies and armies and then numerous trade agreements in the cities of other nations.

Territories are quite hard to define, through I could make a map showing some set borders.

As for the Aari, the only territory that is undouptedly only theirs is the area around their capitol.

Wait, that sort of gives them a major disadvantage in any situation. In fact it makes them so easy to destroy it's laughable.

If they have to territory past that of their own little capital then where do they restock ships? Get supplies? Harbor their fleets? House their armies?

Where they live. All I'm saying is that, even though they've "colonised" a lot, they don't consider much of their "territory" to belong to them. You get what I'm saying?

I guess, but wouldn't they want as much territory as possible? To belong to themselves?

Jay'Vi Royal Forces - 1000 Royal Halberdiers, 800 Heavy-Light Calvary, 3000 Levies, 900 Arquebus, 1500 Archers, 30 cannons,
