International police who've just had their spending cut to a pulp yet refuses to get out of another force's jurisdiction. Aren't we already taking part in the Libyan bombardment?

Yes, but it is not a war. and it looks like it will never come to that as that arrogant bast*rd that runs the shiz feels that he must live in a fantasy where everyone loves him. If it is a war, it will soon be over, with the rebellion figuring out what they are going to do.

Ok. I must ask a question, it is school related but only its origin:

Using unlimited resources and technology (and assuming it is the future, although I do not know if this goes by the rules given.) you must do something about an asteroid incoming to Earth. and this solution needs to be creative.

I have come up with many Ideas

1 Use non nuclear missiles to slow it down, mine it to a smaller size then let it go into orbit or fly past.

2 Use nukes to speed it up, missing earth.

3 If the Asteroid is small and would only cause a mini ice age, move Earth's populace, or a fraction of it under the ground in bunkers.

4 Create a ship to move the Earth

5 Send it into another dimension.

6 Using the power of the human mind we create a meme of destroying this asteroid and it happens.

7 I say something about it disintegrating and pummeling the earth with tire size meteors.

8 Using nukes or missiles we redirect the asteroid into the moon.

9 Using multiple force-fields we contain the asteroid.

10 Laser cut it into infinitesimally small pieces.

Any other obvious ones that don't involve Armageddon?

How about Apocalypse instead then if we can't involve Armageddon, which I suddenly remember is a movie...

why not blow it into smaller pieces so that they burn up in the atmosphere. I've never understood how that instead pummels the Earth with even more when they should burn faster and smaller.

Armageddon is actually a place somewhere in or near Isreal, but okay.

Given the technology at hand at the time, generate a slip-rift close enough to the asteroid as to have its own velocity shift it into higher dimensional space so that it can pop out somewhere we don't really care about.

That's probably your "other dimension" idea.

Oh, and any attempts at breaking it into really tiny pieces will fail because gravity will bring the clumps back together again loosely (meaning you're left with a shotgun instead of a pistol).

That is the other teams Idea... they plan to launch about 50x 100-200 megaton Nukes at it tell it is pulverized. I tried to point out once it is pulverized you now have irradiated asteroids big enough to still go through the atmosphere and kill peoples cats, cars, houses, and anything else they land on.

They said, "Yeah but we aren't dead."

I figured I pretty much covered all the bases, now to make something that puts several together for a foolproof plan!

OK Back on track. What are humans doing in complete terraforming efforts in 200 years? I mean how big have they made their cities, how many icecaps/rain-forests are left, Have they figured out a way to create efficient mining?

On Earth, efficiency is pretty much sorted where the UEF is concerned. I'm too lazy to go into detail, really... ^^'

A lot of original climates and biomes have been restored, at least partially.

Cities are huge, but include a lot of green belts.

So if you took a map of Earth then at night, most of it would be lighted up, l could only expect that.

Restored biomes could only be expected as well.

That is about all I need to know I guess. I have a picture in my mind of Earth 2211 or some time near that...

only the bottom one looks a bit like what I might expect, assuming you remove the port and ships.

Just endless city structures like that, harbors are simply filled in for more room, with endless farms covering the rest. Virtual reality will probably replace quite a few entertainment options also.

Looks exactly I as Imagine it.

And in about a thousand or so years it might look like this.

That last one looks like Canada... That one city... You know.

Remember the greenery. And city expances aren't near endless, due to vertical instead of horisontal expantion.

Plus city-growth was sorta dulled by climax of the extinction period.

I still have to give detail to the extinction period, right?

Well, Global Warming, war, choas, anarchy, revolution, and something on the brink of a nuclear war sorta sums it up. And then people took initiative and fixed (almost) everything.

War over what? Chaos from what? Anarchy where and why? Where and why revolution? What is the nuclear scenario?

And humans can only go so vertical. And what would the effects be from this period? And what laws are there on cloning, slavery, robotic AI, parenthood, lifespan limits, ect.

Y U So specific? BTW, Chaos came from the war and anarchy, anarchy probably came from revolution, and the revolution started the war... The revolution started because global warming turned out to be nothing. That would get me pretty close to pushing the buttons on arming those Nukes. Just saiyan.

You are wrong, you can go as vertical as you want, it only becomes a problem when you hit Magma, or on the flip side the stratosphere. Other than that, at most 20 miles of verticalness, I think that is enough for me.

That is actually an image of Coruscant as a sort of serious joke...

I guess living underground wouldn't be so bad, with virtual reality and other similar things life could be just as nice above ground. (Not saying that underground people would be stuck down there.)

Resourse depletion = Wars over resourses = Large-scale economic collapse = Global great depression = Revolutions to fix everything.

Add global warming, epicly poluted wastelands and the semi-break down of the biosphere to the mix and you have a synapsis of the extinction period.
