That is what I asked for. It was quite informative. Thank you.

MY class just sits there and listens to the history of Virginia and the US for the 8th year in a row. Except for that time we spent a week learning that Mali was in Africa, Greece was full of Greeks with marble and Rome was just Greeks in Italy.

Thankfully we at least have civics in 8th grade.
In our history classes we used to learn about everyone's history but for our own, most of the time. And when we did learn about our own history it only lasted a week or so before the topic was exhausted. Apparently everyone else's history is much more exiting. Especially in Europe. America's bores me, quite frankly. No offence.

America bores me as well. lol.

In my history class our teacher tells us a page in our workbook things, then we do it. He doesn't really explain anything, and the work books are terrible. Half of the answers aren't even in the text.

In my history classes we used to only ever talk about our own history, or the history of Greece, Persia or Egypt. Lately we have been talking about the French Revolution and European Imperialism.

It doesn't help that American history is somewhat limited, to be honest. The US as a country has only been in existence for a bit over 200 years; it is difficult to really make much out of that.

But everyone knows that European Imperialism is the best topic of all. Especially if you do it in-depth.

I like the second version you mentioned hundreds of times more than the first.

None of our history involves ancient history... =`(

I must agree. Sadly we only talked about the colonization of North America and briefly about the colonization of Africa.

To learn how these small countries conquered the world and ended up running it. As a simplification of the entire topic.

North America is only the tip of the iceberg, I'm afraid.

None taken. It is pretty boring yet some how they've stretched over 8 years.

And they've glossed over most of the details and left just the main bits. I bet out of my entire school maybe a dozen of people could even tell me what the Barbary Wars were, where Iraq and Iran is (And we were or are fighting a war there), what Taiwan is, etc.

I like Canada. Still loyal to the Queen; instantly puts them in my good books before anything else. Very Happy

The Barbary Corsairs are interesting...servants of the Ottoman Empire, supplying them with Christian slaves.

Then you must be particularly interested in what is happening there at the moment.

It's a total mess there; best thing is to not get involved in any way. Just get your citizens out, and let the Libyans deal with Libya.

There's other middle eastern/african countries *revolting* too... according to my S&E teacher... I can't remember any of their names though...

You just don't hear about them much

I read something about that in the newspaper. Some country was fearing an Egypt-style rebellion and went about killing people. Or beating them, at least.

Believe me, it's a lot more than just Egypt and Libya. Hopefully this revolution, or whatever, won't spread as far south as my country. Though I guess Zimbabwe really could use something like this to save them (they have $500 000 000 000 bank notes because of their *swear word* economy, caused by their *swear word* dictator).

Gaddafi will die in Libya - that much I'm sure of. Then Libya will collapse into anarchy and probably a new dictatorship will rise out of that. I doubt any real, long-lasting democracy will take form in Egypt - the army has always ruled there, and I don't see them handing over power.

The absolute monarchies of Arabia I do not see falling - they are simply too strong. Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the such - the monarchy there is virtually invincible, to be honest. Yemen? Everyone is so poor there that I honestly can't see a popular uprising. People are too busy trying to survive.

It's a depressing world we live in...

I think we need to start paying less attention to the Off-Topic section.
